Dr. Peter Shih, DMD, MS

Before Dr. Peter Shih studied and trained to become an Orthodontist, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biomechanical Engineering from Washington University in 2002, and went on to earn his Master of Science from Missouri University of Science and Technology in Computer Engineering in 2006. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) from NOVA Southeastern University in 2015 and completed his Orthodontic Residency at Jacksonville University in 2017.

Dr. Shih gives back to the community by participating in programs like Volunteer in Medicine, which provides free dental services to low-income families. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon.

Outside of Jacksonville Modern Orthodontics, Dr. Shih is an avid swimmer and competed in the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim in 2010 – a 4.4-mile open water swim across the Chesapeake Bay in Baltimore. He’s written iPhone/iPad software to help students practice for board exams and scripts to personalize emails, and 3D printed equipment that can be used in the clinic.

What Sets Us Apart?

Dr. Shih, our experienced orthodontist, brings a unique blend of expertise to our practice. With bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering, he possesses an in-depth understanding of tooth movement and has maximized treatment efficiency, ensuring a smoother experience for patients like you. Our commitment extends beyond our practice, as we actively support the community.

We’re proud to endorse the “Communities in Schools” program, dedicated to helping at-risk students graduate and achieve their potential. Dr. Shih frequently contributes his time to reading sessions with kids at Wood Acres Elementary school, tutors children in STEM-related classes like robotics camps at DuPont Middle School, and provides free dental care at the Sulzbacher dental clinic, embodying our passion for community engagement.

Community Involvement

Our dedication to community extends to our involvement in promoting equal access to education. As proud partners of the “Communities in Schools” initiative, we actively support students at high risk of dropping out, providing them with the necessary resources to graduate successfully. With every set of braces, we donate $40 to the cause, which goes towards purchasing graduation gowns and covering fees for students who may otherwise be unable to afford to walk across the stage. Our commitment to community engagement drives us to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
